Four wind turbines could soon be installed near the Château d’Amboise, in Indre-et-Loire. The project divides the inhabitants and angers the director of the fortress.

Since the 15th century, the Château d’Amboise (Indre-et-Loire) has offered a wide view of the valley. But this clear horizon could soon see four wind turbines emerge. A project that divides tourists. “This will distort the site a little”estimates a woman, Sunday October 22. “It’s not going to look pretty when we take pictures.”adds another tourist. “I prefer wind turbines to nuclear power plants,” says another woman.

A fear shared by Stéphane Bern

According to the director of Château d’Amboise, Marc Metay, the visual impact of installing wind turbines is underestimated. “We will see all of the blades of each wind turbine. In addition to this visual nuisance, there will be flashes every three seconds,” he denounces. The director fears that this project will permanently distort a still preserved landscape. “It is obvious that we are creating a precedent which will no longer prevent anyone from installing wind turbines anywhere in this area, that is what creates a danger”, he concludes. A fear shared by Stéphane Bern, administrator of the royal castle.
