Europeans: controversy surrounding a National Rally poster
(France 2)

A poster associating the national gendarmerie with the RN vote for the European elections arouses the anger of the director general of the military body.

A visual at the origin of a controversy. A person from behind dressed in a French gendarme uniform, accompanied by the message: “I am a gendarme, on June 9 I vote for Bardella”. These comments which provoked the anger of Christian Rodriguez, the director of the national gendarmerie. “You seem to be unaware that military status prohibits this type of message”criticized the military official on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday June 2, judging the message “inadmissible”.

Asked about this on Sunday, at the end of his Paris meeting, the head of the National Rally list, Jordan Bardella, evaded the question. But he hastened to respond to the director of the gendarmerie: “The gendarmes respect the duty of reserve in their functions”conceded Jordan Bardella on X, accusing Christian Rodriguez of not doing the same and taking “publicly taking part in a political movement in the middle of an official campaign”. A response and a tone which offended the head of government, Gabriel Attal, like Marie Toussaint, the head of the Ecologist list.
