In Norway, a female walrus has been euthanized by authorities. Humans came to see this animal too closely, which had become the star of the port of Oslo and was in danger of attacking passers-by.
It had become one of the main summer attractions in Oslo (Norway). Since July 17, tourists could see Freya, a young female walrus weighing 600kg, bathing in the waters of the Norwegian capital. Despite repeated calls from the authorities to stay away from the walrus, which could have felt threatened and attacked passers-by, many people continued to approach it. Freya was regularly spotted hunting birds or riding the boats in the harbor. The decision to euthanize him has been strongly criticized by the country’s environmental parties, who believe that the animal’s welfare has not been sufficiently taken into account.
