The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) requested, Monday, May 20, arrest warrants against Benyamin Netanyahu and the leaders of Hamas for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The United States and Germany denounced the equivalence established between Israel and Hamas.
Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister, as well as three Hamas leaders, are accused by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) of war crimes and crimes against humanity. On Monday, May 20, he requested arrest warrants against them. What are they risking? If the ICC issues arrest warrants, they can be arrested, provided they are in one of the 124 countries that recognize the ICC. There would then be an international trial.
In Washington (United States), Joe Biden described this decision as “scandalous”. He also stressed that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas. France first said that it supported the ICC then, Tuesday May 21, Stéphane Séjourné, Minister of Foreign Affairs, provided a nuance. He said there should be no equivalence between Hamas and Israel. The ICC will make a decision in a few weeks whether or not to issue these arrest warrants.
