They continue to increase: mutual insurance contributions are increasingly high, and would be up to twice as high as necessary to cover health expenses in 2024. Senators are considering several avenues to reduce these costs.
They are part of the increases that are having a little trouble passing: this year again, mutual insurance contributions are significantly increasing. The older ones felt it well: “I pay around 70 euros per month”confides a retiree. The Senators are questioning the merits of these increases. According to elected officials, an increase of 4.5 to 6.5% would have been enough to cover health expenses in 2024. Figures which have nothing to do with the 8.1% increase announced by mutual insurance companies.
Management fees, which from 2011 to 2022 increased by 33%, or twice as much as inflation, are also in the Senate’s sights. Insurers justify these costs: “The management costs of mutual societies are above all services provided to members, […] These are expenses that are also useful.”explains Séverine Salgado, general director of Mutualité Française. To reduce contributions, senators are considering several avenues: de-reimbursement of alternative medicines, or even the establishment of a cheaper “senior” guarantee.
