contaminations increase faster than hospitalizations

If the Omicron variant seems less dangerous than the Delta variant, the number of hospitalizations still stands at 20,000, Tuesday evening January 4. Journalist Marina Carrère d’Encausse gives details, live in the 19/20.

While the Omicron variant continues to progress, one observation is that it is less dangerous than its predecessor, but is also more contagious. What effect does it have on hospitalizations? “We see that the contaminations curve is exploding and that hospitalizations are rising less quickly, that’s one thing. It’s rather encouraging”, underlines Marina Carrère d’Encausse, on the set of 19/20 of France 3. Looking at the example of London, which faced an earlier crisis, “the hospitalizations were important, but less in intensive care”.

However, the journalist urges caution. “The peak of this wave will not be reached for a fortnight, so we will know a week later how the hospitalizations are”, she explains. Second, as the variant spreads, it is to be expected that fewer staff will be available, and therefore chronically ill patients cannot be cared for. “Finally, the Delta variant is still circulating, so we continue the barrier gestures and we do our third dose”, concludes the journalist.
