The Covid-19 epidemic seems to have stagnated since Saturday March 5 at levels that remain very high: 50,000 new cases on average per day. Should we be worried about it?
Is the Covid-19 regaining strength? If the drop in the number of cases has been impressive since January 24, it is less and less marked. More cases were thus recorded during the weekend of Saturday March 5 and Sunday March 6 than the previous weekend. “A certain number of French people have already considered that the page has been turned in the face of this epidemic, and more and more, we are talking about the end of the epidemic. So there is probably a relaxation”explains Doctor Benjamin Davido, infectious disease specialist at the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches (Hauts-de-Seine).
Moreover, the new variant, BA.2, is even more transmissible than its predecessor. Should the vaccination pass and the wearing of a mask be suspended in most closed places? “If health indicators remain on the plateau, […] as long as it is not low enough, in my opinion, wearing a mask in transport and in closed places is highly recommended”says Dr. Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist and professor of public health at the University of Geneva (Switzerland).
