72% of French people are not opposed to the idea of drinking wine from a can. The figure was unveiled at the major trade fair for professionals in the sector, Vinexpoheld in Paris.

A can to taste rosé is the novelty of the year at the Paris wine fair. “The first thing is that it’s easily recyclable, (…) and the second is that the can stays fresh for a very long time”explains Frédéric Schaeffer, general manager of the Maîtres vignerons de Saint-Tropez (var). Canned rosé will be on the shelves in French supermarkets in the spring, at a price of 3.50 euros. “It’s a bit of heresy”believes a Parisian passer-by, while another judges the idea “convenient”.

Red, white or pink, according to a recent survey, seven out of ten French people would be ready to try them in a can. 85% of young people under 25 would even be tempted. “We want to reach a young target, and encourage them to consume this type of drink, hoping later to be able to get them to consume superior quality wines”continues Frédéric Schaeffer. According to Benoît Borderie, winemaker at the Château powderthe bobbin does not alter the taste some wine.
