The other key announcement of Budget 2025 concerns the health sector. Health insurance had a deficit of more than 14 billion euros last year. During medical consultations, the remainder payable by the mutual insurance company will increase from 30 to 40%. Currently, more than 2 million French people do not have complementary health insurance.
Health spending less reimbursed by Social Security to reduce the deficit, starting with medical consultations. Next year, when you pay 30 euros to your GP, Social Security will reimburse 2.80 euros less. Mutual insurance companies will have to compensate and are already considering increasing their contributions.
An increase which would be unwelcome for Pascal, father of four children who must keep a tight budget every month: “For people like us, modest without much means… we make do. If it has to increase, it will increase and you will have to pay well. There is no choice.” Pascal’s doctor, for his part, is thinking of the more than two million French people without complementary insurance, who will have to pay a higher out-of-pocket cost and which could keep them away from health professionals.
Another avenue for reducing expenses, the compensation paid by Social Security in the event of sick leave could decrease. The ceiling on their amount could drop from 52 to 40 euros gross per day.
