Tiles cost more, due to inflation. Prices jumped from 30% in just five months, and some craftsmen are facing the beginning of a shortage.

Terracotta tiles, very requested under construction, are becoming increasingly rare in stores. Olivier’s stock Arnutcommercial director of Gedimat of Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine)decreases each week. The whole industry is affected. To cope with the shortage, a factory in Haute-Garonne is working hard double. Its stoves run 24 hours a day. Since the beginning of the year we have increased our production rates, (…) and today everything we produce is delivered“, Explain Elodie Albert, Operations Director ofEdilience.

The materials, which are more sought after, have therefore become more expensive. On average, suppliers increased their prices by 30% in 2022. Soaring prices are reflected in construction sites. To Seilh (Upper Garonne)12,000 tiles are needed for villas under construction. The Craftsman, Philip Stutterercannot pass on the additional costssince his quote was signed seven months earlier, “before any increases”. From now on, more and more craftsmen limit the duration of the estimates to one month.
