Connecticut | Governor would like to lure the Arizona Coyotes to Hartford

(Hartford) Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said Friday he plans to meet with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman about the possibility of moving the Arizona Coyotes to Hartford.

Lamont hopes the meeting can go ahead next week.

“Hockey is very popular here,” Lamont said. The Whalers craze dates back years and years — it’s still among the best-selling jerseys. We have a great hockey market and a government that is willing to be a partner. »

Citizens of Tempe this week rejected a referendum on a new entertainment district, which would include an arena for the Coyotes.

The Whalers moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1997.

They played in what is now called the XL Center, which opened in 1975. The place needs renovations at an estimated cost of at least US$107 million.
