Congress of PLQ members | Marie Montpetit’s shadow hovers

(Quebec) The shadow of MP Marie Montpetit, who was recently expelled from the Liberal ranks for allegations of psychological harassment, hangs over the membership convention as her father – a longtime activist – is present. His ex-colleague, Christine St-Pierre, even wished the return of Mr.me Montpetit if she rehabilitates.

Marie Montpetit’s father, Marc Montpetit, participates in the PLQ members’ congress which is held all weekend in Quebec. He cannot digest the treatment that chef Dominique Anglade reserved for her daughter by expelling her from the liberal caucus earlier this month for allegations of psychological harassment.

“We condemn, we sanction and we move on, we don’t have time to investigate, we don’t have time to waste. It’s still a funny way of doing things. There is no complaint that has been filed [à l’Assemblée nationale] He criticized on Saturday. “I have seen crises in the Liberal Party for 40 years, but you, you have never heard of it, we settled it internally. That’s how it’s done with the Liberals, ”added Mr. Montpetit, president of the Soulanges Liberal Association.

The long-time activist intends to resign from all the positions he occupies within the political formation this Sunday, at the end of the meeting of the members. However, he does not intend to tear up the party card because he wants to keep the right “to vote if there is ever a leadership race”. He is not kind to the new boss – to whom he had given his support in the spring of 2020: “I see that the voters for all kinds of reasons that I do not have to comment on are not listening to him. “.

Dominique Anglade said she was ready to meet Mr. Montpetit if he shows interest. ” I understand [sa] reaction, I am a mother of three children and I think that the reaction we have seen is the reaction of a father to his daughter and I understand it. But, me as head of my political formation, there are decisions which have to be taken and I took the necessary decision. ”

“She is capable of reinventing herself”, says St-Pierre.

Some elected Liberals did not wish to venture on the remarks made by Marc Montpetit nor on the expulsion of the member for Maurice-Richard. MNA Christine St-Pierre, for her part, did not hesitate to speak of Marie Montpetit as a “very intelligent girl” who will “know how to get out of this storm”.

“Now she has a job to do on her own. There are Quebec personalities who have tumbled and who have been seen to come back up, who have been able to reinvent themselves. I think Marie is capable of reinventing herself. Does she wish she were back with the Liberals? “If there is a path that is taken, yes,” she said.

His boss did not have quite the same reading. “I cannot predict the future, but with the information I have today and the information I had, the only decision that was needed was the one I made,” he said. she repeated refusing to comment on a possible return of Mme Montpetit within the caucus if she rehabilitates herself. She nevertheless admitted that she believed “in life in general, in rehabilitation”.

In the wake of the revelations that led to his expulsion, Dominique Anglade had affirmed that Marie Montpetit is excluded from the caucus for good, regardless of the results of a future investigation. “With the amount of information I have today, with the facts that have been presented to me, I don’t see how [une réintégration au caucus] would happen, ”she explained to the National Assembly.

Press revealed earlier this month that Mme Anglade had received a written complaint of psychological harassment against Mr.me Montpetit, in addition to having been made aware of similar allegations about her. Press also collected the testimonies of four people alleging that Marie Montpetit psychologically harassed them.

These are political employees who worked with her in the opposition, but also when she was Minister of Culture and Communications at the end of the Couillard government’s mandate.
