It is a logical and happy outcome for Stade Rennais. After the postponement, then the official cancellation of its match against Tottenham counting for the 6th day of the group stage of the Conference League, which was to be held on December 9 in London, the English club was withdrawn by the ‘UEFA. Stade Rennais therefore won the match 3-0 on a green carpet.
As a reminder, Tottenham had declared itself unable to play the meeting due to numerous cases of Covid in its workforce. But the English have never provided the necessary evidence for the official postponement of the match by UEFA. For this, the Spurs had to have less than 13 players (including a goalkeeper) valid for the match. This decision therefore qualifies the Dutch from Vitesse Arnhem in the next round.
It is the control, ethics and disciplinary body of UEFA which should in theory rule on this case. but given the circumstances and the urgency of the situation, it is the appeal committee of the European body which was directly seized to rule quickly on the fate of the meeting.
