Third stage of the project aimed at completing all of the Keyboard concertos of Mozart by Robert Levin, formerly undertaken with the late Christopher Hogwood. Concertos for two pianos are recorded with the Academy for Ancient Music, Robert Levin and his wife Ya-Fei Chuang, with whom he frequently performs in duo. They also alternate the roles of 1er and 2e pianist in this recording which stands out for the choice of instruments, two almost slender fortepianos but with a very endearing presence, perfectly balanced with a very colorful and sparse orchestra (18 instrumentalists) conducted by Laurence Cummings. In this sound galaxy, the concerto K.365 is more assertive than the K.242, more lace. The other originality is the presence, between two, of the movement of Concerto for violin and piano in D major, a substantial 15-minute piece pieced together by Robert Levin. This work gives a touch of uniqueness to this otherwise admirable release for those who are not looking for a loud-mouthed Mozart in these two concertos.
