In a tense social context marked by opposition to pension reform, some are questioning the relevance of King Charles III’s first state visit to France from Monday March 27. A dinner planned at the Palace of Versailles could finally take place at the Élysée. Across the Channel, concern is in order.

What does Charles III think of the situation in France, three days before his first visit toState ? If the monarchy, true to its habit, does not leak anything, the British media do not hide their concern. “This visit is not well seen as the streets of Paris have been on fire since last week”commented a correspondent for the Sky News channel in the French capital. The social climate in France contrasts with the golds of the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, which should welcome the king and 200 guests for a dinner ofState Monday.

A program that could change at the last moment

The British Foreign Minister, who will be on the trip, says he is not worried about security and leaves it to France. “I have complete confidence in the ability of the French authorities to ensure that the king will be safe and that he will have a positive view of France”told James Cleverly. “I think it would be disastrous for President Macron’s image if an incident were to occur.”, believes for his part a royal expert. The details of this visit on which Paris and London have been working for several weeks could well change until the last minute. Emmanuel Macron’s entourage says that the program is still being developed on both sides of the Channel.
