The Canadians will face one of the following second pot national teams: Panama, Jamaica, El Salvador or Honduras. They will also be paired with one of the third hat nations, Martinique, Curaçao, Suriname or Grenada.
El Salvador, Grenada, Jamaica and Suriname were promoted from League B in the inaugural year of the CONCACAF Nations League in 2019-20.
The Maple Leaf finished second—behind the United States—in Group A in the only edition of the tournament. Both teams finished with records of 3-1-0, but the Americans posted a better differential.
Only the winners of the groups advance to the knockout round which begins in the semi-finals.
That performance earned the Canadians their spot in the 2021 Gold Cup, but they had to watch the final stage of the Nations League from home.
The Americans beat the Mexicans 3-2 in overtime in the final. Christian Pulisic played heroes by scoring the decisive penalty.
The 2022-2023 CONCACAF Nations League group stage will serve as qualification for the 2023 Gold Cup.
