Many Quebecers saw their travel plans disrupted on Monday when Sunwing postponed flights due to computer problems.

Justine Pozezanac and Brendan Mikan arrived at dawn Monday at Montreal’s Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau International Airport to board their flight to Costa Rica. “We got up at 3:30 a.m., because our flight was scheduled for 7 a.m.,” Ms.me Pozezanac.

When they arrive at the airport, the two friends learn that their flight has been moved to 9 a.m. The hours passed and their flight kept being postponed. “It was moved to 11 a.m., then 2 p.m. Now it’s 4 p.m.,” she said.

In the early afternoon of Monday, a hundred Quebecers were waiting to register their luggage. A computer glitch has forced airline Sunwing to enter traveler information manually, causing many flights to be delayed.

“Our systems provider is experiencing a network-wide issue affecting check-in and boarding, causing continued delays for a number of Sunwing Airlines flights,” the airline said on Twitter Monday.

Many Quebecers met by The Press sorry not to have been notified sooner. “It seems that the problem dates back to yesterday. If we had known, we wouldn’t have come for nothing,” exclaims Brendan Mikan.

David Gaulin agrees. “We arrived this morning at 7:45 a.m. at travel check-in and were advised that our flight was delayed at 2:45 p.m.,” says the father of the family who has planned to go to Cancún. After being notified of the delay, the man and his two daughters returned to their home in Vaudreuil. Returning to the airport in the early afternoon, the family learned that their flight had again been postponed to 7 p.m.

Problems can happen, but I would have liked to be warned.

“We’re wasting our day”

As compensation for the delay, travelers received a $15 coupon redeemable at airport restaurants. “It didn’t even cover our lunch,” dropped Luc Laporte, who was waiting impatiently to check in his luggage.

A few meters further, Jessica Boily and her daughter Kate were playing cards to pass the time. “We set up our suitcases to make a small table! Another family joined in the game. “We met in the queue.
