The service is being restored in the Jean Coutu and Brunet pharmacies, assures Metro, the company that owns these chains. An “equipment failure” caused a computer outage and the suspension of sales and prescription services at all branches for several hours on Thursday.



“Service has returned to our networks and the situation is stabilizing,” said Marie-Claude Bacon, vice-president of public affairs at Metro. For requests that are not urgent today, it would be appreciated if patients wait until tomorrow. »

She specifies that the breakdown began as soon as the pharmacies opened on Thursday morning. “The disconnection was noted at 8 a.m. The problem affected two systems at the heart of the services offered by the two chains: that of prescriptions and that of checkouts for payments.

“It was a break in the internet link that caused network issues and recovery at the data center,” explains Marie-Claude Bacon. This prevented processing prescriptions and payments. »

She assures that the breakdown has nothing to do with the other computer problem that the Jean Coutu and Brunet pharmacies had already experienced at the end of September. “It wasn’t a physical break, it wasn’t the same kind of problem,” she said, without giving details.

The problem then affected the cash register system. Like today, Metro assured in September that the failure had nothing to do with any cyber incident.
