Five women have filed a complaint against the director of the Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine, the prestigious children’s and adult choir of the Paris Opera, for moral and sexual harassment.

The Hauts-de-Seine mastery, one of the most prestigious French hearts, is today in turmoil. Five young women have filed a complaint against Gaël Darchen, 54, director of the structure since 1999, for sexual assault and harassment. In addition, 25 other testimonies, including former members of the Hauts-de-Seine Mastery, describe behaviors of sexual harassment.

The complainants, former members of the choir, were adults at the time of the events. One of them agreed to testify anonymously. She recounts how, for five years, Gaël Darchen, her choir director, harassed her on a daily basis. “Daily intrusions, physical contact or requests for kisses…”confides a victim. The Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine is one of the most prestigious musical groups in France, made up of 650 singers aged 5 to 30.
