Company assures that its boss arrested in France “has nothing to hide”

Pavel Durov was arrested by border police on Saturday as he got off a plane in Le Bourget (Seine-Saint-Denis). According to information from franceinfo, the French justice system accuses him in particular of hosting groups carrying out illegal activities on his site.

Telegram assured, Sunday August 25, in the evening, that its boss, the Franco-Russian billionaire Pavel Durov, “has nothing to hide”after his arrest the day before near Paris for various violations of his encrypted messaging. “Telegram complies with European laws, including the Digital Services Regulation, and its moderation action is in line with industry standards”the Dubai-based company said on its own channel.

“Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and he travels frequently to Europe”adds Telegram.It is absurd to say that a platform or its boss are responsible for abuses” taken from said platform.

The Franco-Russian Pavel Dourov, boss of the Telegram messaging service, was arrested by border police Saturday when he got off the plane at Le Bourget airport (Seine-Saint-Denis), franceinfo learned from a source close to the case, confirming information from TF1-LCI. Police custody continues on Monday, according to our information, and could last four days. The French justice system accuses the 39-year-old billionaire of not responding to judicial requisitions and of hosting groups carrying out illegal activities on his site.
