The management of Nestlé announced, Thursday, March 30, the closure of the Caudry factory, in the North which had been implicated in the scandal of contaminated pizzas. A blow for the 200 employees of the site who were mobilized this morning.
In front of the site of the Buitoni factory in Caudry in the North, Thursday, March 30, the decision had been feared for several weeks. Nestlé has decided to permanently close the site, a huge shock for the 140 employees of the factory. “We’re upset, we’re in shock, we don’t know now what our future is going to be like, it’s sad, it’s a pure mess“, laments Didier Fontaine, an employee.
Sales plummeting
The final closure comes after the factory was implicated in the contaminated pizza scandal. In February 2022, Buitoni frozen pizzas are accused of causing the death of two children and intoxicating dozens of people with E.coli bacteria. Shut down for nine months, when it reopened, sales were in freefall. The Minister of Industry is expected on site on Friday. He must meet with employees and local elected officials.
