Commuter trains | Disrupted by a fire, the exo service resumed in the evening

After being disrupted by a fire that broke out on Tuesday in an immobilized locomotive at Montreal-West station, commuter train service resumed normally in the early evening.

More than 25 firefighters were deployed by the Montreal Fire Department after a call was received around 3:30 p.m., said Francis Fleury, fire prevention section head. The evacuation of the wagons was quickly undertaken, and the blaze was “ending” a little after 5 p.m. The number of personnel had been greatly reduced.

The “start of fire” was quickly brought under control in the locomotive of the train which was traveling from Montreal to Saint-Jérôme. “The exo users on board the train were quickly evacuated and are all safe,” also reported Eric Edström, exo media relations advisor.

Service was first disrupted on the three lines passing through the Montréal-Ouest station, namely lines 11, 12 and 14, going to Vaudreuil/Hudson, Saint-Jérôme and Candiac respectively.

However, following a “track inspection”, service resumed normally around 6:30 p.m. from Lucien-L’Allier station. Trains can therefore once again stop at the Montreal-West station and pass through there. The train on which the fire broke out was still on the rails, occupying one of the three tracks, but was not expected to disrupt service further.

On the social network X, exo initially specified that line 11 would leave from Lachine station. For line 12, to Saint-Jérôme, users were invited to go to Parc station before regular service resumed.
