Guillaume Florquin created a surprise by eliminating Fabien Roussel, head of the Communist Party and outgoing MP in the 20th constituency of the North, in the first round.
In the 20th constituency of the North, there are only vestiges of the working class past left after deindustrialization. However, the left seemed to be the favorite in the territory. On Sunday, June 30, it was indeed the National Rally that won. Guillaume Florquin, 31, overthrew Fabien Roussel in a constituency that had been communist since 1962. The representative of the extreme right won 50.3% of the vote against 31.19% for Fabien Roussel. The candidate of the New Popular Front had been the deputy of the 20th constituency of the North since 2017.
“Fabien Roussel has disappointed enormously with his alliance with Mr. Mélenchon”estimates the RN candidate. 23% of the population lives below the poverty line. Some former left-wing voters assume their choice to vote for the extreme right. Guillaume Florquin, already a candidate in 2022, therefore wins in the first round, he who had already followed Roussel in 2022, with 45.50% in the second round.
