Commonwealth Games | Australians break 4x200m freestyle world record

(Birmingham) The Australians improved the world record in the 4x200m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday in Birmingham, where South African Chad Le Clos made history in this quadrennial event with his 18e medal.

Madison Wilson, Kiah Melverton, Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus, double Olympic champion in Tokyo in the 200 and 400 m freestyle, won the title with a time of 7 min 39 s 29.

They thus erased the previous world record set by China in 7 min 40 s 33 during the last Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Behind Australia, Canada took the silver medal and England the bronze.

For his part, Le Clos, 2012 Olympic champion in the 200m butterfly, finished second in the 200m behind Australian Lewis Clareburt who beat him by 29/100.e.

He equaled the record for medals won at the Commonwealth Games, previously held by two sports shooting specialists, Englishman Michael Gault and Australian Phillip Adams.
