Common Front | Large teachers unions have said yes, a trend is emerging

A fairly clear trend seems to be emerging in favor of acceptance of the agreement in principle on the side of the teachers represented by the common front, that is to say those of the Federation of Education Unions.

Teachers in the Quebec region – from the FSE-CSQ – approved the sectoral agreement by 69% at an assembly held over two days this week. The agreement has also already been ratified at the Syndicat de Champlain, on the South Shore of Montreal.

As these are two large unions, they weigh heavily in the account which, at the FSE, operates by mandates, with weight given to each unit following a proportional logic.

The emerging trend is in favor of agreement, so much so that on social networks, counts are starting to be made by teachers.

But officially, the FSE does not transmit its own official account, “out of respect for the assemblies still to come,” indicates Sylvie Lemieux, communications advisor at the FSE.

Several assemblies remain to be held, the last voting on February 7.

From this date, there will therefore no longer be any mystery as to the acceptance or refusal of the agreement, especially since it is much less tight on the side of the teachers of the common front than on the side of the Autonomous Federation of Education (those who negotiated outside the common front).

However, at present, the FSE says that the exact point, with the precise figures, “will be done in proceedings”, during the federal council of February 14, indicates Mme The best.

FAE meeting

On the side of the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE), the members of the last union having to decide on the agreement in principle with Quebec – those of Haute-Yamaska – began their assembly Wednesday evening.

Another meeting will be held Thursday for members who teach evenings, the union said in a press release. A proposal for an extended voting period will also be tabled. The union should be able to know when the result of the vote is announced Thursday afternoon.

Remember that this vote is decisive in the acceptance or rejection of the government’s agreement in principle with the FAE. So far, the count is even: four of the organization’s local unions voted in favor of the deal, four voted against.

The FAE at the national level recommended acceptance of the agreement in principle. The SEHY will recommend to its members to reject it.
