In northern Germany, bird lovers can observe an incredible spectacle: the flight of the common cranes.

A hundred ornithologists and nature enthusiasts are gathered, binoculars in hand, in front of a unique spectacle in Germany: thousands of cranes in the sky, ready to rest on an island safe for them. A show “incredible that nature offers” for tourists and curious. “This region in the north of the country offers us something exceptional”, says an enthusiast. An obligatory stage for these migrating cranes, leaving from Scandinavia and trying to reach the south of Europe.

The resting stage for the common cranes also allows them to regain their strength by recovering fruits and vegetables present on the ground. A long journey that is repeated every year, in the same region of the country and which still attracts as many enthusiasts, who try to disturb birds as little as possible. “The only problem tourists have is when they arrive by car during the day”, Explain Annett Storm, president of a natural association of Boddenlandschaft. The arrival of the cranes also makes it possible to bring the region to life in terms of tourism.
