The commission explores accusations that Donald Trump incited violence to his supporters who stormed the Capitol in untold chaos, through months of unfounded accusations of 2020 presidential voter fraud.
In particular, she has in her possession exchanges between Donald Trump Jr. and the president’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
“He must condemn this shit as soon as possible,” urged the son of the Republican leader in a text message during the attack.
The group of elected officials has already heard from his sister Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, both close advisers to Donald Trump when he was in the White House.
The commission is desperate to complete its work before the midterm legislative elections in November. If the Democrats lose control of the House on the ballot, it risks being dissolved by the Republicans. She plans to hold public hearings in June.
