The commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Landing in Provence were partially cancelled due to storms on Thursday 15 August. Emmanuel Macron praised “unwavering recognition for the heroes of 15 August”.
The highlight of the commemorations of the Landing in Provence, the celebrations were reduced to a minimum on Thursday, August 15, due to storms in the Var. Part of the festivities had to be canceled. In the morning, Emmanuel Macron nevertheless presided over a first ceremony at the Boulouris necropolis. In front of several African heads of state, he paid tribute to the memory of the French soldiers from mainland France and the former colonies who landed on the beaches of Provence to liberate France. “They were not of the same generation. They were not of the same confession. They were not of the same condition. Yet they were the army of the nation,” he greeted.
These commemorations were to continue in the afternoon. In Toulon (Var) for example, the scenes planned for the festivities were dismantled. Reenactments of the Landing were also cancelled.
