Commander, the White House’s serial biting dog, does it again

(Washington) The Biden couple’s dog, Commander, freshly returned to the White House from a training course, is in the news again on Wednesday after once again biting an agent from the protection service for senior figures of the American state .

The rebellious German shepherd, who arrived as a puppy in 2021 with the presidential couple, will have to return to the training institute and show his paws to relearn good manners after this incident, at least on the 11th.e of the kind.

US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill moved into the White House in 2021 with two dogs, two German shepherds, Major and Champ, and adopted Commander (“Commander”) after the latter’s death.

But the canine, which has since taken up residence in the White House, has a bad habit of biting.

The latest incident dates back to Monday evening, when an agent “came into contact with the first lady’s pet and was bitten” by Commander, said the head of communications for the “Secret Service”, Anthony Guglielmi.

“The officer was treated at the scene by medical personnel.”

The Biden couple had already announced in the summer that they were sending their dog for a training course, after several bites, including one that took the victim to hospital, were revealed by the press.

The information came from Secret Service documents, obtained through Freedom of Information requests made by the conservative organization Judicial Watch.

“As we have already noted, the White House can be a stressful environment for pets,” recalled the first lady’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, in a statement to AFP.

“The President’s family continues to look for ways to help Commander manage the often unpredictable environment of the White House,” she continued, recalling their great “gratitude” to the agents and White House employees.

Major, another Biden dog, was also briefly sent in 2021 to Delaware, the president’s family stronghold, to take training courses after biting at least one White House employee.

On the recommendation of specialists, the Bidens had to finally part with it and entrust it to friends living “in a calmer environment”.
