Combel-La-Serre Le Pure Fruit du Causse Cahors 2020 | A cuvée that focuses on fruit and freshness

For several years, the wines of this estate, Combel-La-Serre, have enchanted me.

They are always delicious, and very accurate expressions of their terroirs. Pur Fruit du Causse is made entirely from Malbec, grown on the Causse, a high limestone plateau. It is a cuvée that focuses on fruit and freshness, but it remains undeniably Cahors.

With a deep purplish color, which stains the walls of the glass, it offers an expressive, dark and intriguing nose, where aromas of black fruits mingle with mineral and floral notes: blackberries, brambles, black earth, iron and violet. Archisec, the wine unfolds in the mouth with breadth and firmness, while remaining very drinkable.

A fresh acidity and a good dose of firm tannins give it luster and structure, and invite the table: lamb chops, cassoulet, shepherd’s pie with duck confit.

Combel-La-Serre Le Pur Fruit du Causse Cahors 2020, $18.25 — in 2017 it cost $19.50 — (12956481), 12.5%, organic
