Colored bowls | Marisol’s Bowls

It’s non-negotiable: Marisol Turcot eats a smoothie bowl every morning for breakfast, before starting her workday. She documents her pretty creations on her Instagram account, Colors and Plants. For us, she agreed to prepare a classic: the acai bowl.

Acai bowl ingredients

For 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of vegetable drink
  • 2 frozen bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup frozen Canadian berries (here, a mix of blueberries, haskaps and cherries)*
  • 200 grams of acai berry puree
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. tablespoons maple syrup (optional)

* Since the acai berry, native to South America, is not found in its fresh form in Quebec, Marisol likes to complete her bowls with small fruits from here.

Preparation: the ABCs of a creamy bowl

  • 1. Remove the envelope of acai puree from the freezer (a little in advance, so that it softens).

How to make a thick and creamy smoothie bowl? This is THE question that Marisol receives the most on her Instagram account. Here are some of his tricks to obtain a consistency that is closer to a sorbet… than a soup!

• To accompany the acai, the base of the bowl should consist of creamy fruits, such as banana and mango. Also, it is always better to opt for frozen fruits only, in order to obtain a better texture. In the same vein, avoid adding ice to the mixture.

• The blender should be filled enough — at least until the blades are covered — to do its job. You can add more liquid, but in a dropper, because it is always easier to add more than to remove.

• Cutting fruit ahead of time for garnish is also a good idea, because it melts quickly. Finally, making a bowl of acai takes a good deal of patience, but this will be rewarded by the final tasting!
