The porter will make, on average, 3.4 million per year.

The Stanley Cup champion Avalanche acquired Georgiev on Thursday. The move confirmed that playoff starter Darcy Kuemper would test the free agent market.

Georgiev, 26, went 15-10-2 last season but finished the campaign with a .898 save average and 2.92 goals against.

The Russian goalkeeper will be supported by the Czech Pavel Francouz.

“When he was named as the starting goaltender, he played very well. He wanted an opportunity and he will have it,” Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said Thursday at the NHL Draft.

Previously an auxiliary to Henrik Lundqvist, Georgiev has acted as a substitute for Igor Shesterkin – the recipient of the Vezina Trophy during the 2021-2022 season – for the past two seasons.

Later in the day on Sunday, the Avalanche also confirmed the return of backup defenseman Jacob MacDonald for two more campaigns.

MacDonald played eight games with the Avalanche last season.
