Color and breathing to change our mood

Are you suggesting that we play with colors to boost our mood?

Yes if you have the blues, low morale and know that colors can help you! We now know that they have an influence on us, on our morale. In fact, you probably unknowingly do this when you get dressed in the morning. Very often, unless you are in a compulsory dress code, you will choose your clothes, the colors of your clothes according to your morale.

So if I have the blues, I’m naturally going to dress like a “sad person”?

Well, if you’re not careful, it’s quite likely! Because your clothes look like you and they reflect your state of mind. If you’re sad, you probably won’t want to be noticed, so you’ll tend to pick a go-anywhere outfit and color.

But if I want to act to stop having the blues, what type of color do I choose to wear?

It is recognized that bright colors stimulate us, give us energy. If you want to fight against depression, wear an orange, red, yellow, fuchsia sweater. You will then release an optimistic image and when you see yourself in the mirror, or in the eyes of others, the dark thoughts will go away and your posture will straighten naturally.

So to counterbalance a mood that is not on top we wear colorful clothes. But if in our wardrobe we don’t have this type of clothing, what can we do?

Well, we can do this exercise that I propose in sophrology. When you feel that you are sad, for example, take a little time to close your eyes, relax as much as possible in a sitting or lying position. Then, you are going to try to think of the color that most resembles your emotion at the moment: it can be a dull or pale color, It can be a black and a dark color… You are then going to try to find the color that would evoke for you. you, the dynamism, the joy… in short, a color which, according to you, would correspond to a state of mind that you would like to have.

For example a toned yellow because I need to be more dynamic?

Why not. You will then focus on that color and use your breath. We will inhale through our nose, imagining that we are bringing in all the energy of this sparkling, dynamic yellow and when we blow through our mouth, we imagine that we are evacuating the dull, sad color that represents our current mood. After a few breathing cycles, you should feel very energetic!!!
