Singer-songwriter, actor and director Dan Bigras joins the Canadian Cancer Society as an ambassador ahead of the seventh edition of the prevention campaign entitled “Together, let’s dethrone colon cancer”.
Mr. Bigras therefore joins a quartet of ambassadors already identified: the actress Dominique Michel, the gastroenterologist Nicolas Benoit, the sports presenter Alain Crête and a colon cancer survivor, Ysabel Viau.
In a press release published Monday, Dan Bigras explains his involvement by the importance of taking an iFOBT screening test, which consists of a search for occult blood in the stools in order to detect the presence of blood invisible to the naked eye. These traces of blood can be a sign of colon cancer.
Mr. Bigras and medical authorities point out that the best treatment for this cancer is early detection.
The Canadian Cancer Society encourages people aged 50 to 74 in Quebec to talk about the iFOBT screening test with their healthcare professional and then take it every two years. It is now possible to make an appointment on Clic Santé to obtain it for free.
Dan Bigras has devoted nearly 32 years of his life to the cause of young men in difficulty and homelessness. In 2017, he was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer, but today he is doing well.
