Collision on Highway 20 leaves one dead and four injured

A young driver who was driving in the wrong direction on Highway 20, in Montérégie, will face justice after being involved in a head-on collision that left one dead and four injured.

Emergency services were notified on Saturday, around 11:30 p.m., of the face-to-face that had just occurred between a van and another vehicle on Highway 20 West, near km 153, in the Sainte-Hélène sector. -de-Bagot.

“Five people were in the vehicle that was hit. The driver and three of his passengers were transported to the regional hospital for injuries that would not be life-threatening. However, one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries, ”said Sergeant Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Unfortunately, the seriously injured passenger succumbed to his injuries. He is an 18 year old young man.

“The truck driver was not injured. He was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol,” said Sergeant Bernard.

The 24-year-old man is expected to appear by videoconference during the day on Sunday.

“We also have collision scene reconstructionists who came to the scene to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this sad collision,” said the SQ spokesperson.
