Collision in Côte-des-Neiges | The BEI opens an investigation

The Independent Investigations Office (BEI) is looking for witnesses after a collision on Monday morning, involving a vehicle trying to escape police officers.

In the morning, a police officer allegedly tried to intercept a vehicle “in violation of the Road Safety Code”, according to the BEI. The driver of the vehicle caught at fault, however, continued on his way and collided with several vehicles.

According to information obtained by The Press, he apparently ran a red light during his short run. Several people were then taken to hospital with serious injuries. “We do not fear for the lives of the injured,” however, the BEI said at the start of the evening.

In photos published on the social network X, we see three vehicles damaged at the corner of Décarie Boulevard and Ferrier Street.

Nine BEI investigators were tasked with shedding light on this intervention. The support services of the Sûreté du Québec were also requested, and a parallel criminal investigation was entrusted to it.

The BEI opens an investigation when a person – other than an on-duty police officer – dies, suffers a serious injury or is injured by a police officer’s firearm during a law enforcement intervention.
