To take the road of nostalgia aboard your classic car, you will have to meet a few criteria, negotiated by the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles with the low emission zones (ZFE).
Get down to the garage, and drive a few kilometers away from the city aboard his 1970 Italian: for Jean-Philippe Martines, it’s a return to childhood. But today’s realities are catching up with him: classic cars consume 50% more fuel than the latest models. The creation of low emission zones (ZFE) could get old vehicles off the road.
Negotiated authorizations
The solution: have your vehicle recognized as an art object. To do this, you need a gray card called collection. The car must be over 30 years old, 100% original, and have an up-to-date technical inspection. In this case, there is no more restriction of circulation in ZFE, and the technical control passes from two to five years. The Vintage Vehicles Federation, which negotiated this authorization, argues that these cars have a low environmental impact. “They consume very little diesel, drive fifteen times less than the average and generally not in the center of towns. It would have no effect on air quality to ban them”insists Jean-Louis Blanc, president of the French Federation of vintage vehicles.
