(Montreal) Parks Canada and the union representing 5,000 of its employees have reached an agreement regarding the renewal of the collective agreement.
The agreement came after a week of mediation, said the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the large pan-Canadian union that represents these 5,000 workers.
The PSAC considers that this agreement “makes it possible to make up for the wage arrears and improve the job security” of its members.
Among other things, a clause provides that in the event of layoffs, the government will have to favor the retention of members of the Alliance rather than renewing a subcontract, specifies the PSAC.
Overall, in the federal public service, the PSAC won increases of 12.6% over four years, from 2021 to 2025.
“Parks Canada and the Public Service Alliance of Canada have worked together at the bargaining table to reach a tentative agreement that is both fair and equitable for employees, and reasonable for Canadians. The agreement responds to the major priorities put forward by both parties and offers parity with the agreements negotiated within the central public administration,” the employer indicated.
