An orphaned bear cub was welcomed at the Tanière zoo-refuge, in Eure-et-Loir. Unwanted in France, she was released in an animal park in Switzerland.
At the La Tanière zoo-refuge in Nogent-le-Phaye (Eure-et-Loir), an extraordinary rescue operation took place. A bear cub is transferred to a park abroad. The animal, a one and a half year old orphan, is worried. Tranquilizers are injected to enable transport. The bear was discovered along a road in Latvia at four and a half months old. She was then brought back to France to the La Tanière zoo-refuge. The idea was first to release her into the wild, in a European country.
A long-prepared arrival
Strong opposition has arisen in Ariège, in the Pyrenees, where bears attack herds. “There are five to six times more bears in density than was expected at the start of the reintroduction, this cannot continue”, argues Christine Tequi, president of the Ariège departmental council. The bear will be released in a large animal park in Switzerland. Everything has been planned for the arrival of the bear. “What’s magical is that she found her instincts, she immediately climbed the tree”confides Patrick Violas, founder of La Tanière.
