Collagen is increasingly used as a dietary supplement. In Iceland, a business has been created around this protein with anti-aging properties.

The protein called collagen gave birth to a real economy. In Iceland, fish are caught for food, but not only because in their skin, as in that of cod, there is collagen. Shops have opened to sell the protein. In the morning, it is drunk on an empty stomach and you should not eat anything for 30 minutes”explains the store manager.

If the collagen trade is now all the rage in Iceland, it is thanks to the many benefits it can provide. For the skin and tissues, the protein acts as an anti-aging remedy on the organism. “The Icelandic weather is very harsh, it damages the skin, it gives wrinkles, but since I’ve been using collagen, it’s better”indicates a tourist guide. Experts are reserved about the actual benefits of protein. Previously, fishermen considered collagen as waste, today they make a trade of it.
