Coin bearing the image of King Charles soon to be produced

(Winnipeg) The Royal Canadian Mint will soon begin producing Canadian coins bearing the image of King Charles III.

The Winnipeg manufacturing plant is set to unveil its design of the king on Tuesday, which will appear on one side of all its coins, replacing the current image of Queen Elizabeth II.

A drawing by Canadian portraitist Steven Rosati was chosen from among 350 artists.

The winning design was sent to Buckingham Palace for approval.

The monarch’s effigy will be pressed for the first time on a loonie at the Mint.

The Mint said a small quantity of coins dated 2023 and bearing the king’s likeness were expected to circulate in early December.
