Calais (Pas-de-Calais) still crystallizes the migration issue as much and remains an anchor before leaving to settle in the United Kingdom.
For several years, the situation in Calais (Pas-de-Calais) is very critical. Around 1,500 migrants roam the city, hoping to reach the United Kingdom. If structures have been set up to accommodate them, cohabitation remains very difficult with the inhabitants who are increasingly protesting against their presence. Annoyed by incivility and inappropriate behavior, Calais residents have come up against government interference.
Since the destruction of the migrant camp, 1,500 have been scattered all over Calais. “I know it was not the Calais jungle paradise, but now there are small camps all over the place that the public authorities are trying to push back to the outskirts”, explains Pierre Roc, coordinator of the Auberge des Migrants. A situation that remains very delicate and, for the moment, unanswered.
