If you go to the cinema this weekend, and you choose to go see “Coda”, you risk having a feeling of deja vu. The American comedy tells the story of Ruby, a teenager from Massachusetts, in the United States, passionate about singing when she grew up in a deaf family, whose handicap she does not share.
If the scenario is familiar to you, it’s normal: this film France Bleu is the American adaptation of “La Famille Bélier”, a big success of 2014 in France: 7 million admissions to the cinema.
Because of the pandemic, “Coda” was not released in cinemas but directly on the Apple TV pay platform, which won the auction. The film has since won 3 Oscarsincluding Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur, and Best Adaptation.
The distributor, Pathé, obtained from the Center National du Cinéma (CNC) a temporary visa to program the film in France. The counterpart is that “Coda” will not be screened more than 4 times per cinema, and only this weekend.
More than 120 rooms are concerned : Pathé Gaumont, CGR, Kinepolis, or even Grand Ecran.
