One of the main sponsors of COP27, Coca-Cola, is one of the biggest plastic polluters. He is singled out by NGOs for the fifth consecutive year.

COP27 is currently taking place in Egypt. It brings together leaders from around the world, as well as sponsors, whose logos are discreet. Among the most important, the Coca-Cola group, a somewhat awkward partner. The famous brand of soda is the world champion of plastic pollution. In a ranking published on Tuesday, November 15, by an international NGO, she won the title hands down, for the fifth year in a row. According to environmental associations, the group is even taking advantage of COP27 to lobby. “They offer reading grids that are favorable to their interests with public decision-makers, they pollute the discussions”believes Clément Sénéchal, of Greenpeace France.

To establish its ranking, the NGO sent its volunteers to collect waste from all over the world. 430,000 rubbish were analyzes. Those of Coca-Cola have tripled since 2018, far from its commitments. The brand had indeed “announced that it wanted to reach 25% of reusable packaging within a few years, today we is less than 2%”, notes Juliette franquetdirector of the association Zero Waste France. Contacted, the Coca-Cola group did not respond to requests from France Télévisions.
