The singer, who had not been on stage since 2017, was injured last week, according to his representative.
His highly anticipated Sunday performance in the California desert started an hour late and was widely criticized by the public and the music press.
“After injuring his leg at the festival site in the week leading up to the first weekend…Frank Ocean was unable to perform the scheduled concert, but he still intended to do so, and in the 72 hours, the concert was rearranged out of necessity,” Frank Ocean’s agent told AFP.
The singer suffers “from two fractures and a sprain in the left leg”, he specified, and preferred to cancel his next concert scheduled for Sunday for the closing evening of Coachella, “on the advice of a doctor “.
During the first weekend of the festival, Frank Ocean turned his back on the crowd to perform his title Novacane, and took extended pauses between some songs. The scenography, redesigned at the last moment, also caused confusion among the spectators.
Fans were also disappointed with the concert’s abrupt ending. After his enormous delay, the singer invoked the “curfew” imposed by the festival on Sunday to end his show with a few laconic words.
