Co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire | Ruba Ghazal enters the race

Ruba Ghazal announced Wednesday that she was entering the race to become co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, after the resignation of Émilise Lessard-Therrien last April.

“In the last few weeks, I took the time to reflect on the year we spent together, on the future, […] and I came to the conclusion that the vision that I carry will allow Québec solidaire to progress,” declared the member for Mercier, surrounded by around fifteen activists at La Fontaine Park.

Ruba Ghazal’s two priorities in this race are party unity and Quebec independence.

The member for Mercier is the first to embark on this new race to become female co-spokesperson for the party, a few months after losing to Émilise Lessard-Therrien after a very close vote. The former co-spokeswoman won the second round of last November’s race with 50.3% of the vote, compared to 49.7% for Ruba Ghazal.

Christine Labrie, who came third, became interim co-spokesperson for the party after the resignation of Émilise Lessard-Therrien. By accepting this mandate, the member for Sherbrooke has given up the possibility of running in the next election for co-spokesperson, which will take place next fall.
