The logistics giant CMA CGM continues its development, and this time, in the air. The Marseille group CMA-CGM, one of the world leaders in maritime transport, announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Air France-KLM in the field of air freight. The partnership also provides for CMA-CGM to take a 9% stake in Air France.
A ten-year partnership in air freight
This is an exclusive ten-year partnership, allowing the two groups to in particular pool their cargo networks to strengthen their offer in air freight. Air France-KLM and CMA CGM will jointly and exclusively operate the entire capacity of the all-cargo aircraft of their respective companies, i.e. “ten all-cargo aircraft in operation, and twelve others on order by the two groups“, specifies the CMA-CGM in a press release.
The arrival of CMA CGM in air freight is not completely new. The Marseille group has already developed an airline division over the past year via the CMA CGM Air Cargo.
CMA-CGM becomes a shareholder of Air France-KLM
The CMA CGM Group will also become a reference shareholder of the Air France-KLM Group with 9% of the capital. A representative of CMA CGM should also be appointed to the board of directors of Air France-KLM at the next general meeting of shareholders next Tuesday, May 24.
