Objective: to maintain this spoilsport role. The RN likes to take on this very special role at the Palais-Bourbon, which consists of voting sometimes with some, sometimes with others and then watching them tear each other apart. The trick is a little big, but it works every time: Renaissance and Nupes spend their time accusing each other of collusion with the extreme right. To the delight of Marine Le Pen.
>> National Assembly: “An abstention is paid for”, why the oppositions choose to abstain instead of voting against a law
No question, therefore, of changing the strategy. The RN even plans to move up a gear by taking advantage of its next parliamentary niche, in January, to present bills squarely copied from those of its opponents. On sovereign subjects such as security or social issues.
Sometimes spectacular contortions
The goal is to corner the deputies of the majority or those of the Nupes by showing the public that they refuse to vote the copy of their own texts because they are presented by the RN. In fact, we see that the extreme right party, which willingly pours into anti-parliamentarianism, is a past master in the use of all the cunning, of all the maneuvers of parliamentary life at the cost of sometimes spectacular contortions. For example, when the deputy RN Grégoire de Fournas made a racist spurt in the hemicycle, Marine Le Pen and her troops denounced in all tones the attitude of the Insoumis, accused of instrumentalization, editing, manhunt… just before voting for a motion of censure filed by the same rebels!
And this tactic works… to a point. The RN is clever enough to divide its opponents, and in particular the partners of Nupes. But it struggles to make real credible proposals heard. For example on purchasing power, its deputies will not vote for the bill of the Insoumis who want to bring the minimum wage to 1600 euros net. Marine Le Pen prefers reductions in charges to encourage companies to increase wages, which is exactly the policy led by Emmanuel Macron. Same vagueness on pensions where she abandoned the return to 60 years for all. Since the start of the legislature, the RN has asserted itself as a troublemaker capable of sowing disorder, not yet as an alternative government.
