(Cleveland) Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb will remain on injured reserve as he recovers from two surgeries on his left knee, keeping him out of at least the first four regular-season games.
Chubb’s rehabilitation is progressing well after he suffered a serious leg injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of last season. The 28-year-old has not yet been cleared to return to practice, however, and he needs more time to complete his rehab.
Chubb had injured the same knee while playing for the University of Georgia in the NCAA.
The Browns are optimistic that Chubb will return this season, though the two sides have yet to set a timetable for when he will do so. He did some running drills on the field during the team’s training camp in Ohio.
Chubb, a four-time Pro Bowler, threw for a career-high 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Browns in 2022.
In Chubb’s absence, Jerome Ford will be the Browns’ primary running back. Ford rushed for 813 yards and four touchdowns last season. He added 44 catches for 319 yards and five more majors.
