Cleveland Browns | Jim Schwartz would be the new defensive coordinator

(Cleveland) Jim Schwartz has never been afraid of big challenges and he is about to accept a new one with the Cleveland Browns.

Schwartz, who led the Detroit Lions to the playoffs for three seasons, was hired as defensive coordinator by the Browns, a source with knowledge of the decision told the AP on Tuesday.

The coach has spent the past two seasons as a defensive advisor with the Tennessee Titans. He was one of four candidates the Browns met. He previously worked with team general manager Andrew Berry at the Philadelphia Eagles. Schwartz also won a Super Bowl as coordinator with the Eagles in 2017.

The Browns began looking for a new coordinator last week when coach Kevin Stefanski fired Joe Woods after three seasons with the team.

Schwartz is by far the most experienced candidate. His knowledge of the 4-3 defensive scheme matches the philosophy of the Browns and their staff.

Recognized for his passion, the coordinator will also bring balance to the group of Browns coaches, led by Stefanski.
